The Humane Society of Monroe County (HSMC) was founded in 1954 by Monroe County residents who were concerned for the welfare of the companion animals in our community. For approximately 50 years, the society has operated a shelter where stray, abandoned or surrendered animals receive care – food, shelter, medical attention and love – until they can be placed in a permanent home. The society also promotes the humane treatment of animals through education; attempts to re-unite lost animals with their owners and provides a subsidized low or no cost spay/neuter program for Monroe County residents on disability, Medicaid, social security or other income restrictions (contact the admin. office for more information or to see if you might qualify for this program.) The HSMC is a non-profit, no-kill organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. We employ a small but dedicated staff to care for the animals, operate the shelter and conduct our outreach programs and events. Currently, the society does not receive government funding. Our budget is comprised of fundraising events, memberships, donations, cage sponsors and adoptio ns. A dedicated group of volunteers provides invaluable assistance in conducting our community outreach programs.

FMAR is a non-profit 501(c) 3 rescue for dogs and cats that started in April 2003 with the help and support of great volunteers and supporters. We grew faster than anyone anticipated, creating a necessity to find more space. We moved from our dream home and bought a 6-1/2 acre farm with a run down house and two great barns. We renovated the smaller of the 2 barns with 9 dog kennels and 5 unique cat kennels. Then in 2005 we raised the money to add onto the smaller barn and create an inside community cat area where our adult cats live in a free roaming environment. Our mission is to protect animals and residents by promoting a healthy and safe environment for all. FMAR felt we needed to start in our own community helping our Animal Control facility find homes for the strays they pick up or are brought to them. When we have extra space we have done our best to help out neighboring communities as well. We are amazed and saddened every day by the abundance of homeless pets. We also have been fortunate enough to start a few very important programs in our community such as feral cat spay/neuter and pet behavior training. Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged us to continue when things got tough. Keep watching the best is yet to come!!

The goal of our shelter is a simple one – to provide good care until owners are located or loving homes are found for the pets that find refuge with us. Achieving this goal, however, is not so simple. It takes hours of hard work by dedicated volunteers and a goodly amount of money from patrons and sponsors to feed and house the animals until they are adopted. For the vast majority of our shelter cats and dogs, that means a second chance on life in a new home with a responsible, caring family. Sheltering is only part of the solution to an ever growing problem of lost, stray and abandoned animals. It’s also important to educate the public about intelligent and humane treatment of animals. Spaying and neutering of pets is vital in order to impact the terrible plight of pet overpopulation. Therefore, every adopted cat and dog from the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter is spayed or neutered. We encourage people to adopt these remarkable and beautiful animals from local shelters.

The Missaukee Humane Society of Lake City , Michigan

www.mhs-pets.org

We are a no-kill facility, established in 1989. The Missaukee Humane Society's mission is to benefit animals by providing education, guidance and shelter as needed in order to support a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for animals. Our commitment is to serve as a partner in creating and sustaining this environment for animals both in the shelter as well as in the community. Our goal is that each animal lives in a healthy and safe home that is most capable of meeting that animal's needs. We will provide shelter for each animal in our care until such a home is found. We will provide ongoing support as needed throughout their lifetime. Our services are designed toward helping the community feel confident in making an informed decision regarding their choices. When they choose to relinquish their animal, we help them successfully cope with their feeling of loss by providing assurance that their animal will be safe until there is an opportunity for the animal to be placed in a new home. We will assist the community in achieving the goal of a happy, healthy and rewarding relationship with their pet in order to avoid having to relinquish their pet. We will provide them with referrals for education, veterinary help and support services as needed. We assist the adoptive owner in preparing for the joy and responsibility of adopting an animal by providing education and guidance on successfully meeting the challenges that are a natural part of the adoption process as they arise throughout the animal's life.

Katy Bishop's Animal Friends

Katy Bishop's Animal Friends was founded in February, 1996 and is a non-profit organization - a charity program run by volunteers. We are a 501 (c) 3 organization and your donation is fully tax deductible as far as the current law allows.

The group is named after Katy Bishop, a great animal person, who was taken from her family and friends at an early age, due to illness. We are located in Bay County, Michigan.

We provide all of our fosters with initial vet care. We are a small group so there are only a few of us that can foster these animals in our homes. We at this time foster both dogs and cats and we work with all fosters on an individual basis.

Our mission statement
Our mission is helping homeless animals - both dogs and cats - with rescue (both life-threatening and non-threatening situations), medical care, vaccinations, fostering, rehabilitation and placement in permanent loving homes. To remove said animals from breeding cycle through sterilization surgery, there by, helping the community with pet over-population problem and maintaining good health and safety practices for the animals through vaccinations against diseases.

We find new homes for many wonderful dogs and cats of all ages and sizes, both mixed breeds and purebreds. Our adoption procedures include screening and home visits of potential adopters. The organization does not have a shelter so pets are housed in private foster homes where they receive loving care until they are adopted into responsible and loving homes.

All donations go directly to aid animals in need. Expenses are kept to a minimum. We may not be able to change the world but we can change the life of each dog or cat that we rescue.

Pointers From Oz

We are located in Michigan, but will adopt out of state. We rescue English Pointers that are out of time at shelters. English Pointers make great pets - they are very active outdoors but couch potatoes indoors. They are also great with kids and cats in most cases (and we evaluate both of these). Our website is www.pointers.petfinder.com and includes a lot of information about the breed and our program.

A Few Steps From Home Animal Rescue.

We are a small rescue. We rescue dogs & cats from all over the area. The animal in our rescue come from owner surrender, strays found on the street, and we also pull dogs out of the animal canters, that would have been put down because there was nobody to adopt them. We arrange and pay for all vet care for them and rehab them. We then find forever homes which are thoroughly screened prior to adoption. We are an all volunteer based rescue that operates out of our individual homes. We rely on donations to keep us going
