VET ADOPTIONS The VET ADOPTIONS mission is to improve the lives of suffering animals by practicing compassion and kindness. VA is supported by donations and volunteers. We are focused on rescuing animals off the streets of the city who face no other alternative but a slow painful death due to heartworms and diseases or euthanasia from local animal control facilities. We provide them with veterinary care, including spay/neuter, foster care and help to find them permanent homes. We are a no-kill agency that does not euthanize animals due to lack of space or time. We rescue animals who are in desperate need of being saved, such as cases of abandonment, abuse and emergency. We educate the public about responsible animal guardianship and the need to control pet over population. We assist the public with care for their animals via financial assistance, training, or education. Our Services Include: pet adoptions - all pets are given vaccinations, spay/neutered and complete wellness checks by veterinarians, and pet foster homes, visiting pets, public outreach & education When you adopt from an organization like Vet Adoptions, that has a "no kill" policy, you will be helping to rescue another animal by making space available at our shelter homes. If you would like to sponsor one of the animals on our website, indicate the name of the animal and send your donation to Vet Adoptions, P.O. Box 2017, Metairie, LA 70004. Please make all checks payable to the Humane Socieity of Louisiana, as we are a non-profit, 501(c)3 status chapter of the Humane Society of Louisiana. P.A.W.S. Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center We're a greater New Orleans nonprofit 501 C 3 organization that provides horse assisted activities for children and adults with disabilities. Quite a few of our horses are here with their second lease on life, though they did have to go thru a fairly stringent process to make sure they are suitable. We also have lots of other animals, received from folks who no longer could keep them. We have limited space, but the goats and potbellied pigs and chickens help our little ones who are afraid of the horses transition to the bigger animals. We provide horse assisted activities for children and adults, and this year started our "Horses for Heroes" program, though on a small scale, where injured War Veterans come to the riding center. THe goal is to have comrades help fallen comrades with this activity Looziana Bassett Hound Rescue, www.bayoubassets.petfinder.org,
located in Harvey, Louisiana Looziana Basset Rescue takes the orphaned bassets into foster care,
where they are loved and cared for until permanent adoptive homes can
be found. We provide veterinary care that includes vaccinations, heartworm
treatment if necessary, and spaying or neutering. We completely rehabilitate,
both physically and emotionally, any adoptable dog and prepare him/her
for a "forever home."
