T.L.C. Animal Shelter (Tender Loving Care)

13016 West 151st Street, Homer Glen , IL 60491

708-301-1594

www.tlcanimalshelter.org

The site not only tells you what we do we have a video on there about the shelter. The Tender Loving Care Animal Shelter, more often referred to as T.L.C., has been in operation since April first, 1974. Although there were animal control programs set up by county and local government bodies, as a group of concerned animal lovers we felt that this was not enough. Just getting stray animals off the streets and disposing of them was not the answer to the overwhelming animal problem that is out there. Concerned about the welfare of these animals, T.L.C. was formed. T.L.C. has served the community as a private, non-profit, humane society, dedicated to the prevention of abuse, neglect, and cruelty to animals. The shelter provides refuge for an average of three to four thousand animals yearly.

TLC not only helps the animals, we offer tours and information on animal care to scout and school groups. One of our proudest accomplishments is our VIP Program, a group of dedicated volunteers that bring animals to visit senior residences and shut ins to brighten their day. We also have a special fund called the "Bertha Fund" for animals in need of more extensive medical care.

In April of 2005, Young At Heart Pet Rescue was formed to aid in the rescue and rehoming of older dogs and cats in the Chicagoland area. 100% of the animals we rescue come from municipal pounds with high euthanasia rates for older animals. Our mission is to find a new home for every adoptable animal that comes through our door, to educate the public on the benefits of adopting older pets, and to decrease the euthanasia rate for older, adoptable dogs and cats in Illinois . Each dog or cat that we rescue receives the best veterinary care, and we do not turn away animals that need a little extra medical attention. All of our pets are vaccinated, tested for infectious diseases, are microchipped, spay/neutered, and the majority receive a geriatric screening and a dental. We are a non-profit 501c3 organization with an all-volunteer staff, so all donations go directly to the care of our animals. It also means that we rely on the generosity of pet-lovers to support our mission and our rescued animals.

PAWS Chicago

Founded in 1997, PAWS Chicago (Pets Are Worth Saving) is the city's largest No Kill humane organization. With its work focused on alleviating Chicagos tragic pet overpopulation problem, PAWS Chicago envisions a No Kill Chicago, a city in which no pets are destroyed because they are homeless. Since PAWS Chicago's founding in 1997, the number of homeless pets euthanized per year has dropped from 42,561 to 19,701 more than a 50 percent decrease. For more information on PAWS Chicago's new Adoption & Humane Center, Lurie Family Spay/Neuter Clinic or volunteer and community outreach programs, visit
www.pawschicago.org.

The new Center is the first cageless, No Kill, state-of-the-art shelter in the Midwest. The opening of the Adoption Center put new standards in place on how each individual homeless pet is valued in Chicago. The new Adoption Center is a warm, welcoming place where animals live in suites and receive plenty of fresh air, exercise, toys, and most importantly, love and respect. In 2007, more than 1,600 animals found permanent, loving homes thru PAWS Chicago, and we are on-track to unite more than 3,000 homeless pets with forever homes in 2008.

Marion Regional Humane Society

http://www.marionrhs.org

Our organization formed out of the lack of facilities for cats and dogs in this region. It is pretty rural and most of the local animal control facilities in small rural towns are small to non-existent. When we formed in July 2007, the only option for stray impounded dogs and cats was likely euthanzation. There was very little for dogs and absolutely nothing for cats. In only 6 months, we inspired changes in local law enforcement, animal control and city ordinances. The cats now have a shelter and the City we live in now has an option to something other than killing every stray. So far, since we started the only euthanizations that have occurred are mercy cases. Our Goal is to try and provide a “no kill” approach to caring for stray, lost animals and give them a path to a new home that will hopefully be a permanent one. We are attempting to organize financing for a spay/neuter shelter to provide low income spay neutering and vet care. It is surprising what a few dedicated people can do. As of Jan. 22, 2008, in only l7 months we have adopted or rescued 331 animals.

Hope Animal Rescues

Our rescue started out as being two people deeply affected by the aftermath of hurricane Katrina and the suffering of the animals. November 15th, 2005 a group of pets arrived in Alton Illinois, some from the hurricane others from animal control facilities that use the gas chamber to euthenize. Working with those animals and seeing the "hope" in their eyes and the spirit of their souls drove us to continue our work today. We are a RESCUE and we physically go pull animals
on their last day of life at animal control so that they may find a true second chance within our adoption program. Today we are a non-profit corporation and our mission is one of compassion for the homeless, rehabilitation for the physically and mentally abused. Our goals are to promote spay/neuter, stop the use of gas chambers to kill our homeless pets, and to educate people on how to treat all animals with respect and dignity. Dogs, and Cats were domesticated by people for
companionship, and to work beside us in our everyday life. We are responsible for their well being for they are completely dependent upon us and no longer able to survive on their own. Dogs and Cats feel pain, suffer depression, and want to live just as humans do. However, everyday in this country, every 7 seconds somewhere there is a loving, hopeful pet whose life is ending just because they have no home. Be a part of the solution and not the problem, SPAY and NEUTER
your pet!

Colona Animal Shelter
About Our Shelter
Hi. My name is Suzie Bogart. I am a Sergeant on the Colona Police Department. I work evenings as a patrol officer, but I enjoy assisting with our Shelter and am dedicated to the welfare of our animals and homeless pets. Our Animal Control Officer, Roger Reed, and our Administrative Secretary, Laura LaMantia, are also working hard to find homes for the many wonderful animals that come to our shelter. Regretfully, due to a lack of space and funding, our agency has been forced to euthanize when the shelter becomes too full. It is a heartbreaking experience when we must choose to euthanize one of our four-legged friends due to a lack of space, manpower, and funding, but we are always searching for ways in which to save each and every one of them no matter how long it takes. Until then, we will work to continue adopting out as many of these wonderful creatures as possible. If you are looking for a dog or cat, I hope you will consider checking our shelter. We might just have your "new best friend" housed there.

Fur Angels

My organization is Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary based in Aurora, IL. We're a rescue, and we also happen to specialize in deaf animals. We rescue, train them and adopt them out as well. We don’t only focus on deaf animals, we do have animals that can hear but due to our knowledge of deafness, we also help deaf animals, which makes us pretty unique in the rescue organization.
